MusselApp Update: New Tools for Aquaculture Farm Management

The fix you didn’t know you needed

You know that feeling when a number just looks off? A budget that reads 3.2999999 instead of 3.3. A line on your map that won’t bend the way your farm actually does. Small stuff, but it adds up over a season, so this month we chased it down. Fixes you’ll actually feel, plus the Stage Reseeding tool we said we’d come back and explain properly.

The Skipper App now shows meters tracked directly, so crews can check progress without switching screens.

We gave the welcome dashboard a fresh look. Same information, easier to read at a glance.

A new AI model checks your data against what it predicts, and flags anything that doesn’t line up, catching quality issues a manual check might miss.

You can now connect MusselApp to ChatGPT or Claude and just ask it things directly, like how much you harvested on a specific line or farm, or even feed it data to input. Go to Profile > Extensions > AI Assistant to connect. Started last month as a trial with ChatGPT, now Claude works too.

Things you can ask:

  • “Show me my farms and lines.”
  • “What is on Line 12 right now?”
  • “Record today’s assessment for Line 12.”
  • The assistant asks before saving, and every record passes the same validation as the app

The harvest menu now gives more space to show the value of each harvest. The form now show both $/bag and $/kg side by side, so it’s clear at a glance which unit you’re working in.

This builds on last month’s Send to Processing feature. Now you can set your own price per processed kg for each category: harvested mussels, brokens, smalls, biofouling, or any custom category you add, along with an effective date and full price history. Set this up before sending a harvest to processing, the app will ask you to. Once it’s in, you’ll see it reflected in Stats > Processing. Oysters get the same setup, priced per processed dozen instead of kg.

When you send a harvest to processing, the popup now shows the price and amount right there. No extra clicks needed.

Lines used to draw straight only. Now you can map curved or bent lines too, so your farm layout matches what’s actually in the water.

Budget and expense entries were sometimes showing odd numbers, like 3.2999999 instead of 3.3. That’s fixed now.

A round of smaller layout fixes across the app. Mostly things you’ll notice without us needing to point them out.

Last month we mentioned Stage Reseeding was coming. Here it is. It sits inside Harvest Planner, next to ML Harvest Log, and shows where each line stands: current stage, days seeded, estimated reseed date, and a confidence score based on your own farm data.

Early on, a stage’s forecast leans mostly on the planned schedule. As harvests and assessments come in, the confidence score climbs and the estimate sharpens. It’s the same idea behind Spat Weather Analytics: the more data you feed it, the better it gets.

If you haven’t started using it yet, now’s a good time. The forecasts only improve with more history behind them, and there’s no way to add that history after the fact.

Shelly, our farm assistant is a real person on our team, and she can help with the admin side of things, like data entry, if your season’s got you buried and you just don’t have the time. Tell us and we’ll get you set up or just give you a demo for a couple of days.

She can:

  • log data into MusselApp for you,
  • get on the phone with your skippers or anyone else in the operation to gather what’s needed,
  • take admin work off your plate when the season gets busy.

If that sounds useful, just reply to this newsletter and we’ll get you set up.

As always, if something looks off or you want to see a change we haven’t made yet, let us know. We’re building this with you, not for you.

More coming next month
