Mussel App Product update August 24

Got a cool name for us?

We hope everyone enjoyed a cozy winter in the Southern Hemisphere and a vibrant summer up North. As many of you know, the majority of our app’s functionality stems from invaluable feedback and collaboration with farmers like you. That’s why we’re turning to you with an important question: what do you think we should call ourselves moving forward? (we might post some cool names so don’t be shy, let’s make it fun 🙂 While Mussel App has been our name, we now fully support oysters and have even begun early trials with seaweed. Is it time for a name change, or should we stick with what’s familiar? We’d love to hear your thoughts!

Exciting New Features in Mussel App: We’re thrilled to introduce several new features that we believe will enhance your farming experience:

  • Harvest Declaration Form with QR Code: Now, you can print out the harvest declaration form with an embedded QR code, making it easier to share with multiple people. The QR code allows users to instantly access data after scanning, eliminating the need to search within the app.
  • Expanded Timesheet Functionality: If you’re tracking time, you can now import Excel timesheets and generate detailed reports, including boat and performance reports that distinguish between productive and non-productive time.
  • Fully Operational for Oyster Farmers: We are now fully operational for oyster farmers, complete with multiple custom reporting options tailored to your needs. View how harvest for oysters (and mussels) works here.
  • Mussel App to Mussel App sharing: You can now share your single or multiple farms with a contractor for a period of time, allowing them to insert the data for you without sharing any logins! You can see the concept here.
  • Updated Reports and Predictions for Mussels: We’ve enhanced several reports and prediction tools for mussel farming, including a new harvest planner report.
  • New Line Tagging Functionality: You can tag lines with any custom keyword, such as “biofouling” or “requires maintenance.” These tags appear on everyone’s screen instantly. Additionally, you can now tag a line as “requires immediate attention,” which will highlight it on all screens.
  • Automation for Tasks and Alerts: You can now schedule tasks and set up alerts. For example, in oyster farming, if baskets need flipping every two weeks, you can automate the task “flip the line” every two weeks. You can then automate action: If not actioned within another week, the line will be tagged as requiring urgent attention.
  • Filtering Lines by Stages: Easily filter lines by the number of times they’ve been reseeded (stages). For example, you can quickly locate and filter spat shellfish, which are at stage 1.
  • New Spanish Translation: We’re excited to announce that Mussel App is now available in Spanish!
  • Something Secret We’re Working On: We’re developing a groundbreaking two-directional voice command system. Soon, the app will talk to you, and you’ll be able to talk back—the first voice-to-data aquaculture system in the world!

2024 Shellfish Futures Conference

We’re excited to announce that Mussel App will be attending the 2024 Shellfish Futures conference in Tasmania! We’ll be giving a short talk and hosting a stand where you can meet the team, ask questions, and see our latest developments in action. Don’t forget to stop by and grab some Mussel App swag—we’d love to see you there!
