Mussel App Updates: August Release Notes

Your farm just got a serious upgrade and you haven’t noticed

Last month’s changes are a long list, then again, August was a pretty long month.

Grab a coffee before you start reading.

Shelly is not an AI, she’s a real person on our team, and this month she picked up a new trick: she can now import your existing reseeding and harvest workbooks straight into MusselApp, with a preview before anything gets written, so nothing goes in until you’ve checked it.

If you’ve been putting off getting your records into the app because it felt like too much work, don’t be scared to message us. She’s here for exactly that: help you get back on track with your data.

Additionally, she can also build you a Monthly Management Report, a Word document with your harvest breakdown, key metrics, and a written summary, filterable by farm and line. If that sounds useful, reply to this email and we’ll set it up.

Beyond that, Shelly can log data into MusselApp for you, get on the phone with your skippers or anyone else in the operation to gather what’s needed, and take admin work off your plate when the season gets busy.

See your farm to scale, with dropper loops and oyster trays drawn the way they actually sit in the water.

Pick tray positions right on the map, seed the trays you select, and record tray assessments without leaving the view.

Roll back and see exactly what your farm looked like on any past date, not just today.

For example, with a forecast updated in three-hour intervals, a six-hour persistence rule requires two consecutive forecast points above the threshold.

This removes short-lived model spikes before they ever reach the user.

A candidate must survive two evaluations

Even when a forecast crosses a threshold, the warning remains pending until it appears in two consecutive evaluation runs.

A single unstable model run should not be enough to wake a farmer at 3:00 am.

Forecast-driven alerts sent per farm, with your own notification settings and quiet hours so you’re not getting pinged at 3am. Go to profile>Weather Warnings.

Compare growth across size classes and see mortality the app worked out from your own data.

Overdue and unforecast crops now show up instead of quietly dropping off your planner.

Tag your farms so you can group and find them the way you actually think about your operation.

See your capacity in rope metres for mussels and oysters, with reseed commitments already counted in, plus a what-if view for planning new spat. This is a very beta version, we haven’t fully tested it with new predictions, but the feature is live to try it out. You can help us improve it.

Each user can choose which farms show up for them, handy if your team covers different sites. It won’t show your company’s entire operation but rather which sites they work on.

We’re deep in multi-species per line, the biggest piece we’ve got in flight. Once it’s live, forms and records will follow the crop you actually picked on a line, not just whatever was seeded there first. We’re also cleaning up vessel names in the Monthly Management Report before rolling that out more widely.

That was August. As always, if something looks off or you want to see a change we haven’t made yet, let us know. We’re building this with you, not for you.
