Static fields in Mussel App are essential for standardising the data across your team and ensuring consistent communication within the company. These fields can only be updated by the admin, making it important to set them up early and update them as needed to reflect changes for everyone.
Why Use Static Fields?
Static fields are used to ensure that your team follows standardised data entry processes and reporting methods. This helps maintain consistency across operations, enabling effective communication and reporting within the app. As the Mussel App grows, more static field options will be available for you to customise.
Types of Static Fields:
- Seasons:
- Used to define the time periods (e.g., calendar year, seasonal year, multi-year seasons) for filtering and organising data based on the farm’s operating schedule.
- Maintenance List:
- Allows you to categorise the types of maintenance your team performs, such as cleaning or floating, for standardised reporting and tracking.
- Seed Type:
- Crucial for spat storage. This field helps you filter and report on seed types such as diploids, triploids, wildcatch, or hatchery stock.
- Port of Unload:
- Used to track traffic and generate accurate harvest declaration documents based on where harvests are unloaded.
- Delivery Options:
- Helps you manage customer lists and delivery preferences, streamlining the communication and logistics process.
- Biosecurity Types:
- This field is for reporting species commonly found on your farm. Your team can select specific species from a dropdown menu, improving consistency and accuracy in biosecurity reporting.
- Farming Method:
- Especially important for oyster farming, this field allows you to specify farming methods such as baskets, long-line trays, deep-water trays, sticks, or French collectors. This data will later appear in reports for analysis.
- Customers & Custom Fields:
- You can add additional custom fields to suit your specific needs. Customers are also listed in this section for easy access during operations.
How to Add or Edit a Static Field:
- Navigate to the section of the static field you want to edit (e.g., Farming Method).
- Click the blue Add button under the field.
- To add a new option, enter the name (e.g., “Basket”) and click Create.
- The new option will now appear in your list and be available for selection across the app.

By properly setting up and maintaining these static fields, you ensure that data entry remains standardised, allowing your team to work more efficiently and produce more accurate reports across operations.
